New backstage information on Christian’s black eye has surfaced. As Christian hit the ring during the Feb. 10 edition of “Monday Night Raw,” it was apparent that he had suffered a black eye recently, and many members of the WWE Universe took to Twitter to discuss the visible injury.
While the questions of “what happened?” poured in from fans all over the world, Christian and Sheamus defeated The Real Americans in one of the best matches of the night. However, it was Captain Charisma’s eye that was the focal point of the segment.
It turns out that Christian suffered the black eye as the result of a legitimate strike to the face that he received from either Seth Rollins or Roman Reigns over the weekend. Sheamus and Christian tagged up against Rollins and Reigns during both WWE Live Events on Feb. 8 and 9, and the “potato” shot to Christian’s face was said to have happened during one of these two matches.
For those that do not know what a “potato” is, it is the wrestling term for when someone actually strikes their opponent in the face cleanly. As wrestling fans, you should know that while the entertainment is scripted, the athleticism is real, and it takes great skill to give the appearance of a stiff punch without connecting. A “potato” occurs when that punch, elbow, kick, etc. connects firmly. If Christian were to have given a “potato” back to Rollins or Reigns, that shot would have been known as a “receipt.”
