Update: Over the Edge 1999 Will be Edited on WWE Network

As we previously reported, the infamous Over the Edge 1999 pay-per-view is among the many PPVs that will be available on WWE Network. KDKA, Pittsburgh’s CBS affiliate, recently published an article regarding WWE’s decision to have the event on WWE Network, in addition to Chris Benoit footage.

On Friday, Jan. 31 WWE issued the following statement regarding Over the Edge 1999 and WWE Network to KDKA:

“WWE Network will be airing the 1999 Over The Edge pay-per-view. However, portions of the event will be edited out of respect for Owen Hart.” 

KDKA is also reporting that WWE’s decision to contain the event on its upcoming WWE Network was made within the past two weeks. KDKA also spoke to Stephanie McMahon, one of the principle owners of WWE about the WWE Network, which will launch on Feb. 24, shortly after “Monday Night Raw.” The interview with McMahon occurred  on Jan. 26, the day of the Royal Rumble, which was in Pittsburgh, Pa. at the CONSOL Energy Center.

McMahon told KDKA the following regarding the decision to air Chris Benoit footage on WWE Network:

“They are incredible challenging decisions to make. At the end of the day, we try to do what’s right for our fans and we try to give them exactly what they want to see.”
