The 28 annual Royal Rumble match will feature 30 men, not 40. In a new advertisement for the 2015 “Royal Rumble” event on the official website of the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, where the event will take place, it is disclosed that the annual battle royal will be a 30-man match, not a 40-man bout as previously reported.
In the advertisement produced by the Wells Fargo Center, it’s revealed that the match will feature 30 men, such as John Cena, Bray Wyatt, Dean Ambrose, Kane, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns. The advertisement reads,
“Royal Rumble’s main event is a battle royal, over-the-top-rope, 30-man elimination match where only one wrestler will be left standing. WWE Superstars John Cena, Bray Wyatt, Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, Kane and many more fight it out in the City of Brotherly Love for a chance to compete in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match at WrestleMania 31.
John Cena is the face of the WWE, and one of the most decorated wrestlers in history. He has 15 reigns as World Champion, and the two-time Rumble winner is looking to become just the second superstar in history to win the Rumble three times. The 12-year veteran has also won the United States Championship, the World Tag Team Championship, and the WWE Tag Team Championship.
Roman Reigns looks to improve on last year’s record-setting Royal Rumble performance when he eliminated 12 participants in the battle royal match before finishing second, losing to Batista. He already has been a WWE Tag Team Champion, and the former NFL defensive lineman looks to be a future WWE Champion in the making.
During the Oct. 27 edition of “Monday Night Raw,” the match was also described as a 30-man battle royal. When the event was initially announced for the Wells Fargo Center, many fans reported that it was advertised in the arena that the Royal Rumble Match with feature 40 superstars. It appears as it was originally announced wrong, or WWE has changed up their initial plans for the event.
Cena was originally slated to face Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at the event. However, with the announcement saying Cena will participate in the battle royal, many believe that Lesnar may face the Leader of the Cenation in December at “TLC” instead of at the “Royal Rumble.” This would leave Lesnar open to face someone else, likely Randy Orton, for the title at the event.
The 28 annual “Royal Rumble” PPV will take place in Philadelphia at the Wells Fargo Center on Jan. 25, 2015.
Editor’s Note:
This means Orton vs. Lesnar for the title can take place at the PPV, if Lesnar does compete.
