A new report from NBC News has provided some updates on the situation.
According to the police in Gainesville, Florida, Swann was arguing with his wife, Vannarah Riggs, who is also a wrestler. She goes by the name Su Yung and had wrestled earlier in the evening.
Swann “critiqued” her performance and the pair began arguing. A witness told police that Riggs jumped out of his slowly moving car, at which point, he put her in a headlock and dragged her back to his vehicle.
Riggs screamed for help as Swann put her back in the car, but the car drove off and a witness saw Riggs exit the vehicle a second time. Riggs told officers that “she was afraid of Swann because he has a temper sometimes.” She added that she was trying to get away from him so the argument wouldn’t escalate into physical violence.
Swann told officers that he didn’t touch his wife and that she got into the car on her own. He will appear in court on Monday.
You can see a clip of him competing below:
He was scheduled to face Drew Gulak next week, with the winner getting a shot at Enzo Amore’s Cruiserweight Championship. That will not be happening now, as WWE has released the following statement:
WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence, and per our policy, Rich Swann has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest.
We will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as they become available to us.
Editor’s Opinion:
This is such a shame. He is such a talented performer, both inside and outside of the ring. However, there is absolutely no excuse for this type of behavior on any level.
