According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has begun to have internal talks about producing an independent wrestler special on the WWE Network in 2019. The idea would be to feature talent that are not signed with the company, but are doing amazing things in the world of professional wrestling.
While no reason for producing it comes to mind, Dave Meltzer speculates that it might be a way to open doors to talent in other companies. Furthermore, WWE could use the relationships that would be developed with other promotions, such as WWN, ICW and Progress, to use their talent and bring them in for either one-off appearances or long-term deals.
Editor’s Opinion:
I LOVE this idea. It’s no secret that the world of professional wrestling is changing, and that WWE is starting to recognize and attempt to bring in the biggest talent in the world, no matter what their background is. With the development of NXT and the Performance Center, the company can show other superstars the “WWE way” of doing things, and give the fans the dream matches that they’ve always wanted to see!
