It’s apparent that some wrestlers on the independent scene do their jobs really well.

Patricia Anne Crowe, 59, held wrestler Paul Lee at gunpoint during an American Wrestling Federation (AWF) show in Ringgold, Georgia, this past Saturday, June 4. Lee had tied another wrestler in the ropes and was hitting him with a chair, when Crowe entered the ring and used a knife to try and cut the ropes to free him. After Lee told her to “sit her toothless self back down,” Crowe would then pull out a 38-caliber handgun at point it at him.

Lee was able to take the gun from Crowe, and hold her until the police arrived.

Crowe was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and reckless conduct. She was released on Monday, June 4 on $4,000 bail, and has been banned from all future AWF events.

According to Lee:

“I had him tied up and was beating on him, and this lady jumps up with a knife, cuts him loose, and then pulled a loaded gun on me. She had that thing loaded with one in the chamber and the safety off. All it would have taken was for her to get shaky with that thing and it could have fired.”

The incident has also prompted AWF officials to increase their security. According to Lee,

We’re going to be installing metal detectors at the entrances. “We’ve already got ‘em picked up and will have them installed before the next show. The way the world is today, things happen at movie theatres and malls….you have to take extreme measures to protect fans. We’ll have the metal detectors right at the doors when you come in.”

Both the Rome News Tribune, and WRCB-TV in Chattanooga, Tennessee posted stories regarding the incident. You may find the Rome article at this link, and the WRCB-TV article at this link.

Editor’s Note:

This is crazy. We have to remember that professional wrestling is just a show, and both faces and heels have a job to do. I’m glad to see that this woman has been banned from all future events, and we should all be thankful that this didn’t become a more serious incident.
