The push for “The Bulldog” lives on.
A group of die-hard wrestling fans, known as “Team Davey Boy Smith” launched a campaign in 2013 for Smith to be a part of the class of 2014, but it never came to fruition. Even so, the campaign has continued on, while an online petition for Smith’s entry into the Hall of Fame continues to grow, with over 7,500 signatures collected so far. “Team DBS” plans to send this petition to the WWE Board of Directors in the future.
“The British Bulldog” had several runs with WWE from 1985-2000. During that time, he won several championships, and was a member of the legendary “Hart Foundation” with his real-life brother-in-law, WWE Hall of Famer Bret “The Hitman” Hart. His most famous match was against Hart in the main event of “SummerSlam” on Aug. 29, 1992 at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
Smith, who is originally from England, won the Intercontinental Championship from Hart in his home country. As previously reported, Smith’s wife, Diana, recently commented on the decision to have this match close “SummerSlam” that year. She has also sent messages to Stephanie McMahon concerning why her husband was not included in the Hall of Fame.
You can find the online petition, as well as other videos of superstars endorsing the cause, at this link.
Editor’s Note:
No complaints about this from me. Davey Boy Smith is a legendary figure in the world of professional wrestling in every sense of the word, and deserves his place in the WWE Hall of Fame.
