The most famous referee in professional wrestling history is leaving his current employer.

According to a report from Pro Wrestling Sheet, Earl Hebner has announced his departure from Impact Wrestling. He made the decision this week, due to the company’ decision to use local referees for the upcoming “Bound For Glory” pay-per-view this weekend, and not the current officials on the roster

Hebner is most known for his role in the infamous “Montreal Screwjob,” as he was the referee in the match between Shawn Michaels and Bret “The Hitman” Hart at “Survivor Series” in 1997. You can see a clip of the incident below:

This has not been a good week for officials at Impact, as both Brian Hebner and Brian Stiffler have also left the company.

Earl Hebner has been with TNA/GFW since 2006 and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2015. It is unknown what his future plans are at this time.

This release adds to the list of departures from Impact in recent memory. Most notably of these is Jeff Jarrett, whose partnership with was terminated due to inappropriate actions.
