Already the featherweight champion, he knocked out Eddie Alvarez at 3:04 of the second round at UFC 205, to become the lightweight champion as well.
However, according to a report from ESPN, McGregor has vacated the featherweight championship, electing to keep the lightweight title. This means that he will compete in the weight class that begins at 155 pounds.
Jose Aldo, who defeated Frankie Edgar at UFC 200 in July, has thus been awarded the featherweight championship.
It is certainly understandable that defending two titles will be time consuming for McGregor, and may not be possible due to the upcoming birth of his first child.
McGregor has made recent headlines in the world of professional wrestling, as his agent has said that an offer by WWE would be entertained. Triple H has praised McGregor multiple times for his performance in the “octagon,” and says that he would be a perfect fit for the company.
Editor’s Note:
I certainly understand the logic behind this, but I hope that we see McGregor in a WWE ring some day. I have a feeling that a few superstars would love to see him too…
