It had been previously reported that Chris Jericho was to host a wrestling cruise, destined to sail from Miami, Florida to Nassau in the Bahamas. It recently competed its journey, as the event took place from October 27-31, 2018.

But how did it go?

According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the cruise was a success and the reviews were positive. However, it was an expensive production, between the ship, talent, and the idea of doing wrestling matches on the ship. In addition, engineers were brought in to work on the ring and keep it steady, in case there were big waves or a storm would happen.

Jericho partnered with Sixth Man, who handled much of the expense. It took two years to convince them it was viable and it was a seven figure expense by the company to put it together. Jericho was responsible for securing the wrestling talent; ROH provided 24 wrestlers to him, with separate deals in place with Impact and Omega.

However, Y2J noted that even with the sellout, he considered the first year a loss. While he may either lose some money or break even, the idea is to create a franchise, with the idea that the people who were on the cruise were having such a great time that they would want to do it again.

The actual numbers for the Cruise were 1,013 sold cabins and 2,270 total attendance. Cabins ranged from about $2,000 to $8,000 and that didn’t include alcohol; however, all of the food was taken care of and there was no extra cost for things like autographs and such.

Editor’s Opinion:

This is a very cool idea and I hope that it becomes an annual thing. Y2J is just the type of personality to put an event like this on each year and I think it’s something that people would love to be a part of!
