Impact Wrestling is making an aggressive push toward repositioning itself in the market to be a contender. Having fallen from grace over the course of the last decade, it’s a hard road, but they are clearly confident that they can make it happen.
However, looking at some of the changes headed to the promotion–according to PWInsider–this could be another coin flip as to whether the brand is heading to success or the toilet.
This week will be the first week that TNA will be completely absent from Impact Wrestling. This, along with their new slogan, “Make Impact Wrestling Great Again,” aims to distance itself from the TNA label and signify a new start and direction for the company.
However, when it comes to dealing with their talent, it looks like they are further driving wedges into their working relationships. As it is being reported, Impact is looking to work on new contracts which will cause talent to get paid per date and not per episode. If a wrestler were to work multiple matches in one day, they will get paid once. They will also be asking for 10% royalties to any matches a wrestler works outside of the promotion, and force wrestlers to get approval from Impact before working outside of promotion.
These latter stipulations could lead to talent to look elsewhere for contracts, and the company is already expecting to lose some talent over the new contracts, with Jade already balking at the prospect.
