Joey Ryan: Porn Sponsorship Paid More Than All My WWE Checks Combined

Joey Ryan is one of the more prolific stars on the indie circuit–and one of the more infamous. GIFs of his in-ring penis spots are shared well outside of wrestling circles, and his suggestive persona has led to a solid career outside of WWE.

One of the bigger parts of that career has been a sponsorship from pornography purveyor YouPorn. The website’s name now accompany’s one of Ryan’s signature moves, and that infamous GIF is now officially called the “YouPorn Plex.”

Some wrestlers on the indie circuit might be concerned that such a sponsorship would limit their future opportunities, but Ryan isn’t concerned. He spoke with Sean Waltman on a recent episode of his podcast to explain.

“One initial check that YouPorn gave me paid me more than all of the dark matches and SmackDown job matches I did in WWE combined. So I’m going to go with the money. There’s part of every wrestler that wants to be presented in a light that looks favorable to WWE, because obviously they’re the top of the industry. But at this point I was like, I’m just going to do what makes sense for me.”
