With Goldberg’s return putting him in the Royal Rumble, there’s been a lot of buzz and speculation. Moreover, a lot of people have been putting him as their favorite going into the match.
But is this really the case? When you think about it deeper, it is highly unlikely that we see a Goldberg victory going into this Pay Per View.
As noted by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, a Goldberg win would require Brock Lesnar to win the Universal title, as Goldberg vs. Lesnar is still being billed for Wrestlemania 33. Roman Reigns or Kevin Owens one is expected to defend the title at February Fastlane before the WWE even hits Orlando for the biggest PPV of the year. Lesnar is not anticipated to show up at February Fastlane at all. Thus, one of them would have to earn the title prior to Wrestlemania for the match to be up in the format it currently is expected in.
So who is the favorite then? It is predicted oddsmakers by that Braun Strowman has the best chance, but personally we shouldn’t be counting out The Undertaker or perhaps even Samoa Joe, the latter of which has seen his odds rise in recent weeks.
