The last time WWE fans watched former World Champion Rey Mysterio compete in the squared circle was on April 7, 2014, in a one-on-one bout with “Bad News” Barrett.
Mysterio’s 13-year run with company ended in February of this year, with a mutual agreement being reached with WWE on his release.
The 40-year-old recently took to Twitter to offer some thoughts on his departure, and what his immediate future looks like:
I had an incredible time performing in WWE & would love to thank everyone who saw me for the first time & became a fan! My life & career

Plans are heading in other directions,as for now I’m at a very comfortable stage. But we never know what the future holds for us!#Booyaka619 — Rey Mysterio (@reymysterio) September 13, 2015
WWE had a good understanding on my departure. I hope this would answer some of the ? on why I ain’t wrestling with WWE anymore.

Dave Meltzer of PWInsider.com recently reported that there have been “casual insignificant” talks between the two parties on a potential return.
Editor’s Note
There’s no need for Mysterio in WWE’s product right now. Sure, it would be cool to see him make a one-night return to NXT, but on weekly television as a key contributor…….no.
