We reported here at WrestlingRumors.net (via F4WOnline.com) on Aug. 14 that WWE superstar Rey Mysterio had been invited to appear at AAA’s “TripleMania” event on Sunday night.
Although he didn’t appear live in person, Mysterio was still presented to the audience through a taped video with the hashtag #FreeRey.
The #FreeRey hashtag is referring to Mysterio still being under contract to World Wrestling Entertainment.
His contract was set to expire in April until WWE Chairman Vince McMahon renewed it for one more year in lieu of Mysterio’s numerous injuries. He believed Mysterio owed the company time after missing 19 months of action in three years recovering from two serious knee surgeries.
The esteemed luchador recently stopped cashing his WWE paycheques, which may be a sign that he’s set to take legal action against the company.
Former WWE superstar Alberto Del Rio appeared live at “TripleMania,” calling his former employers racist.
Editor’s Note
Mysterio won’t be satisfied until he’s gone from WWE and working for the new AAA promotion. Vince McMahon clearly has other plans, though. It won’t be easy.
