It was back on April 7, 2014, during an episode of “Monday Night Raw” when the WWE Universe last witnessed Rey Mysterio competing in a WWE ring.
The two parties agreed to part ways earlier this year, with Mysterio’s last official day with the company being on Feb. 27, ending his 13-year tenure as a WWE superstar.
According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), there have been “casual insignificant” talks over a possible return to World Wrestling Entertainment for Mysterio.
Per Dave Meltzer:
“Regarding the mention of Mysterio in WWE, we’re told there has been casual insignificant dialogue. The thing is, if you look at it, both sides have reason to work together. WWE still doesn’t have a new Latin star, and Kalisto and the Lucha Dragons are pretty much typecast for a lower card role. Mysterio left because WWE really wasn’t doing anything with him and Lucha Underground was going to build around him as their marquee star, plus they tape closer to home. The idea is he’d get a nice guaranteed contract as the top guy with Lucha Underground and still be able to work his indies when he wanted to. But with Lucha Underground as questionable, the entire situation has changed.”
Editor’s Note
I understand WWE’s need for more hispanic stars, but considering his injury history, it wouldn’t be the wisest investment to bank on Mysterio returning to his glory days.
