The cuts just keep on coming.
According to a report by Wrestlezone.com, as many as 30 WWE employees are expected to be let go by the company as the next wave of budget cuts rolls through.
The report notes that the executive wing will be hit the most. Buses will be taken off the road, post-production costs will be slashed and air and ground travel will be diminished.
We reported earlier this month that Chairman Vince McMahon was looking to make cuts in traveling and catering. Making certain employees fly coach instead of first-class was a small step towards that. Catering was also going to be scaled back but not eliminated completely.
Nick Paglino of WZ.com confirms that several moves have already been made to clear space for “an overhaul at the main tower” this week.
Budget cuts have already hurt the filming of certain WWE programming, including “Tough Enough.” Filming was supposed to begin in the summer but cuts have pushed it back to October.
WWE is looking to cut nearly $20 million from the budget in 2014.
Editor’s Note
I don’t think I’ve ever seen/written so many stories on budget cuts within WWE as I have this year. As successful a company as WWE is, these cuts are a sign of much deeper issues.
