Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle’s contract with TNA Wrestling is set to expire at midnight tonight (Sept. 21).
During a recent appearance on “The Mark Madden Show” on 105.9 The X in the City, Angle discussed his options as it pertains to his immediate future in wrestling:
I’m still in the process. My contract is up on Sept. 21. I will say this. TNA has been really loyal to me, and there is an obligation there, but at the same time, I have to do what is best for me. I haven’t quite decided yet. It wouldn’t be a surprise either way. It’s just…I’m going to have to bear down right now, and by the end of September, I’ll have my decision.
He then appeared on Ring Rust Radio to let it be known that he’s decided on a wrestling promotion, although he wouldn’t say which one:
Well right now I’m not at liberty to say where I’m going but I will tell you I’m going to do the right thing for me and my family. I am in the process of structuring a deal and I do have a company in mind. I haven’t said yes because I want to make it a public thing with the company and myself. I can’t really say who it is or where I’m going but I can tell you it’s going to happen in the next two weeks before my contract is even up. I won’t be wrestling until January but there will be a signing in the next couple of weeks.
As previously mentioned, Angle won’t be able to compete until January as he recovers from recent ACL surgery.
Triple H, the COO of World Wrestling Entertainment, reportedly does not want Angle back in WWE. Angle turned down an extension with TNA because he was under the belief that a WWE return was plausible.
That doesn’t appear to be the case at this time.
Editor’s Note
I could easily see Angle signing a one-month extension to get through the “Bound for Glory” pay-per-view, but that’s about it. The WWE reports could be smoke signals to lead fans away from the truth. The only man who really knows what’s going on is Angle himself.
