NXT Champion Kevin Owens will go one-on-one with WWE United States Champion John Cena at “Elimination Chamber” on May 31, live from the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
To further their storyline, Owens will reportedly appear live on “Monday Night Raw” for a second-straight week on May 25.
Owens showed up on “Raw” on May 18 after Cena issued yet another Open Challenge for his title. While a match between the two didn’t unfold, Owens let it be known that he and Cena will have a bout one of these days.
He then proceeded to Pop-up Powerbomb Cena into the canvas, right before stomping on the United States Championship and mocking his fallen foe with a “You Can’t See Me” gesture.
After a backstage chat with WWE COO Triple H, Owens revealed to Renee Young that “Elimination Chamber” will be the location for their highly-anticipated match.
Owens’ title defense against Sami Zayn at “NXT Takeover: Unstoppable” was ruled a No Contest. Former TNA World Champion Samoa Joe made his debut at the event, confronting Owens to close the show.
Editor’s Note
Owens’ reaction from the WWE Universe last week was fairly poor, but that crowd was dreadful throughout the night. It will be interesting to see how fans respond to the NXT Champion following his debut appearance on the main roster.
