Dolph Ziggler is set to make his grand return to WWE programming after being away from the ring for over a month.
The former two-time World Heavyweight Champion was written off television following an attack by Rusev on July 6. This was designed to give him time to go shoot WWE Studios’ latest film, “6:42.”
Ziggler will be playing a cop in the movie named Ray Fitzpatrick.
The attack in question saw Rusev take a crutch to Ziggler’s throat which he drove into the mat. WWE.com reported the following after the incident:
“Further evaluation by medical staff revealed that Ziggler is suffering from a severely bruised trachea. He was released from the hospital Tuesday afternoon after being monitored overnight to make sure his windpipe didn’t close. He is having issues talking and swallowing and will be out indefinitely.”
While he didn’t compete in a match, Ziggler was present at a recent WWE Live Event north of the border, laying out Rusev with a Zig Zag in the middle of the ring.
Ziggler’s return tonight will likely lead to a match against “The Bulgarian Brute” at WWE “SummerSlam” on Aug. 23 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Lana and Summer Rae may also be thrown into the match to make it a mixed tag.
