Facing what appeared to be insurmountable odds, Daniel Bryan was able to overcome The Authority and leave New Orleans as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania XXX on Sunday night.
In the opening match, Bryan managed to defeat WWE COO Triple H after reversing a pedigree, kicking him in the head and then finishing off the 13-time champion with a running knee. Stephanie McMahon proceeded to viciously slap Bryan after the bell, leading to Hunter clotheslining him from behind. He then slammed Bryan’s shoulder into the ring post and nailed him with a chair before walking out with his wife.
By defeating Triple H, Bryan earned a spot in the main event in a Triple Threat match against Randy Orton and Batista.
Near the end of the match, Batista delivered a Batista Bomb to Orton. After going for the pin, Bryan kneed him in the face and rolled through into a YES lock, making “The Animal” tap out.
WrestleMania XXX closed with confetti coming down from the rafters as Bryan hoisted both the WWE and World Heavyweight Championship belts in the air.
Editor’s Note
This has been a long time coming. Watching Daniel Bryan win TWO matches at the biggest pay-per-view of all-time to become champion was vindication for a man who had been scratching and clawing his way to the top spot in the company for months on end. Now there’s no way of knowing how long his reign will last, but I’m certainly going to be enjoying every last second of it.
