At the WWE “Money in the Bank” pay-per-view on June 14 in Columbus, the “Celtic Warrior” Sheamus won the Money in the Bank Ladder match against six other superstars to earn himself a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship whenever he so pleases.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Sheamus becoming “Mr. Money in the Bank” was apparently WWE’s plan last year before the departure of one CM Punk.
The original blueprint was for Sheamus to turn heel, face Daniel Bryan one-on-one at WrestleMania 30, and then go on to win the Money in the Bank Ladder match.
What ultimately happened was Bryan defeating Batista and Randy Orton in the main event to become WWE World Heavyweight Champion, although he eventually had to be stripped of the gold due to injury.
When the 2014 Money in the Bank Ladder match wound up being for the title, WWE decided to go with a superstar who they wanted to be the one to drop it to Brock Lesnar at WWE “SummerSlam,” who ended up being John Cena.
A second Ladder match was added to that card for the briefcase, but with Sheamus already in the championship match, WWE didn’t want to make any changes.
Sheamus is reportedly very likely to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from whichever face winds up defeating current champion Seth Rollins in the coming year.

He won’t look “stupid” with the gold around his waist, now will he?
