ECW
Heyman spent eight years in ECW, putting his effort and passion into establishing a unique, popular promotion.
In 1993, Heyman began working with Eastern Championship Wrestling, where he was in charge of the creative aspect of the association.
He advised officials to acquire certain wrestlers, and he also helped young talent to move forward in the business, such as Tazz.
After spending a year with the company, Heyman knew he had to make some big changes. The company parted ways with the traditional National Wrestling Association, while Heyman and Tom Gordon broke away from Eastern Championship Wrestling and created Extreme Championship Wrestling.
All throughout his time in ECW, Heyman was skillful on the microphone. He had some “formal” promos outside the ring, discussing topics such as acquisitions and contract deals.
Fans also appreciated Heyman’s ability to get them riled up with epic promos in front of the crowd. One of his most notable lines is, “This ain’t WCW, this ain’t Monday Night Raw, this ain’t Smackdown! This ain’t even WWE, this is EC F***in’ W!”
The original era of Extreme only lasted for about seven years. However, Heyman certainly used different strategies to compete with other promotions. For example, ECW was always acquiring new talent, despite some of the company’s stars signing other contracts. Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, and The Dudley Boyz all entered the ECW spotlight at different times.
In addition to this, Heyman also took a huge leap forward by introducing ECW’s first pay-per-view: Barely Legal. It was produced in 1997, and its success showed that Heyman and his wrestlers could compete with the industry’s top promotions.
No matter what, Heyman pushed ECW to be successful, while also trying his best to keep it afloat.
His legacy in ECW will always be remembered, and his legacy in WWE is still going strong.
