As we previously reported, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is pushing for more substantial budget cuts for the company. McMahon himself has even told those within WWE that he is looking to cut $20 million from the budget. If successful, the company’s losses in 2014 would not be as high as past estimates of somewhere between $45-52 million.
Within the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it is noted that budget cuts may occur within the traveling and catering departments. In terms of travel, WWE is expected to make some employees fly coach instead of first-class. Additionally, the company has also implemented a new policy on international travel. In regards to catering, it is expected to be scaled back, but not eliminated. The newsletter also notes that there has been a hiring slowdown.
Over the past couple of months, WWE has implemented a number of budget cuts. Most notably, on one day, the company released 11 of its personnel. A couple weeks later, long-time commentator Josh Mathews was released. Additionally, the company has pushed back filming for the WWE Network revival of “Tough Enough,” and may not even air a second season of “Legend’s House.”
Editor’s Note
These cuts certainly aren’t that surprising, but I wonder how much of an impact it has on reaching the $20 million figure.
