TheWrap.com has published an exclusive piece on WWE possibly looking to sell its entire content library. The website’s report notes that film, television, and music producer Warner Bros. is in talks with WWE to purchase its entire content library. Though, both sides have denied to comment on the matter.
No financial terms have been disclosed, but WWE’s library reportedly possesses more than 150,000 hours of content. Some of the content even dates back to the 1950s. WWE’s library is currently held by Cinedigm, an entertainment company in Los Angeles, California.
A source with close ties to Cinedigm informed the website that there is no end date in regards to Cinedigm’s WWE contract. However, the company is reportedly transitioning away from the WWE library.
At launch on Feb. 24, the WWE Network contained more than 1,500 hours of content, including all pay-per-views by WWE, ECW, and WCW. It has added a plethora of original content, and various shows from the vault.
WWE’s library may be up for grabs due to its financial struggles in 2014, especially the struggles of the WWE Network. The network recently launched internationally, but still falls shorts in terms of subscribers. At last count, it had about 670,000 subscribers, falling way short of its 1,000,000 goal for the end of the year.
Editor’s Note
Wow. Looks like WWE is looking to sell its ENTIRE content library. I wonder what a company like Warner Bros. would want or do with it.
