As we previously reported, WWE had a series of vignettes finished for former NXT Tag Team Champions The Ascension, Viktor and Konnor. The vignettes were ready to be aired on the Dec. 1 showing of “Monday Night Raw,” but were instead held back. The previous report noted that WWE wanted to wait until the duo faced Hideo Itami and Finn Bálor at “NXT Takeover: R Evolution,” airing live on the WWE Network Thursday, Dec. 11.
On the Dec. 12 showing of “Smackdown,” which airs the day after the live NXT special, WWE aired the first vignette hyping The Ascension. The vignette aired just prior to a match between the tag team of Cesaro and Tyson Kidd and The Usos, the current number-one contenders to the WWE Tag Team Championship. At the time of this writing, nothing else about the vignette is known.
As stated, The Ascension will face the two newest members of NXT, Hideo Itami and Finn Bálor, at “NXT Takeover: R Evolution.” The match may very well be the last time the WWE Universe sees The Ascension on NXT, prior to them moving up to the main WWE roster on a full-time basis. On Friday, Dec. 12, WWE will tape another batch of “NXT” tapings, which should shed light on The Ascension’s status on the developmental program.
Editor’s Note
Awesome. I wonder if The Ascension will debut alongside Bray Wyatt, as previously rumored.
