On Tuesday, Sept. 23, WWE taped the Sept. 26 edition of “Smackdown” from the Verizon Arena in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Below are the spoilers for the Sept. 26 showing of “Smackdown:”
The Miz kicks off the night, seething with anger at Dean Ambrose. Upon fallout from “MizTV” on “Main Event,” Miz demands a match with the “Lunatic Fringe.” Miz will not leave until Ambrose gives him a match. Ambrose abides, giving Miz a match.
1. Dean Ambrose def. The Miz- Ambrose picks up the victory with “Dirty Deeds.” Both Kane and Seth Rollins are ringside for the bout. Afterwards, the two try to attack Ambrose, but fail, similar to their failure in interfering in the match to cost Ambrose. In the end, Ambrose runs through the crowd, stealing Rollins’ Money in the Bank Briefcase.
2. Cesaro wins a Battle Royal to become the number-one contender to the Intercontinental Championship– Other notable participants in the battle royal include: Bo Dallas, Zack Ryder, Damien Sandow, Jack Swagger, Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston, Big E, Heath Slater, Titus O’Neil, Justin Gabriel, Los Matadores, and Sin Cara. Cesaro would win the battle royal, eliminating Kofi Kingston and Jack Swagger at the same time. Dallas joins those three, as the last four competitors in the battle royal.
3. The Usos def. WWE Tag Team Champions Stardust and Goldust via disqualification in a title match- The Dust Brothers retain their titles through disqualification. The Usos win the match upon Goldust hitting Jimmy Uso with his title as Jimmy Uso attempts to pin Stardust.
Next, a backstage segment airs between Kane and Seth Rollins. Rollins wants to devise a plan to retrieve his Money in the Bank Briefcase, and take out Ambrose.
4. Layla and Summer Rae def. Natalya and Rosa Mendes
Renee Young interviews Big Show in order to hype his main event bout with Rusev. Show promises to knockout the Russian.
5. Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler def. Cesaro in a title match- Cesaro wastes no time in getting his title match, but cannot capitalize. Ziggler wins with a roll-up pin. However, Cesaro has a hold of the ropes upon getting pinned, but the referee misses the call.
Renee Young now interviews Big Show’s competition, Rusev and Lana.
6. Big Show def. Rusev via disqualification- In the latter stages, Show chokeslams Rusev, setting up for the “KO Punch.” However, Lana distracts him, allowing Rusev to strike Show with the Russian flag. Upon recovering from the strike, Big Show does deliver a “KO Punch” to Rusev, closing “Smackdown.”
