Late Sunday night on July 27, news broke that Spike will be canceling “Impact Wrestling,” by not renewing its contract with the wrestling promotion, which expires in October. Both TNA and Spike have denied the rumors, stating that negotiations are ongoing. Additionally, all of TNA’s talent has reportedly received an email, stating that all rumors out there are false. This is similar to how the company informed talent that rumors of TNA being up for sale in 2013 were false.
In the same edition of “Wrestling Observer Radio,” that said that TNA had lost $45 million over the last three years, WWE was mentioned in discussion of the story. Amid rumors of TNA being canceled, some wrestling fans speculated or jokingly said that TNA would be coming to the WWE Network. The WWE Network contains all pay-per-view events from WWE’s two biggest competitors, WCW and ECW.
During “Wrestling Observer Radio,” it was speculated that WWE will likely try to purchase TNA’s tape library, if the company cannot find a new network to air “Impact Wrestling.” In the industry, the going rate for such footage would be $500 an hour. TNA’s library reportedly has a little bit more than 1,000 hours, meaning that WWE would likely offer somewhere around $500,000 for TNA’s tape library.
Editor’s Note
If TNA can’t find a new network to call home, it would be interesting to see if TNA would take such a deal. For the company’s losses, the money, albeit small, may be welcome.
