Over the past month, there have been many rumors that “Smackdown,” WWE’s second-highest viewed program, would be moving to Thursday nights. It began when an official company production truck was spotted advertising the new time. Former WWE star Adam “Edge” Copeland’s “Haven” series was moved to 8 p.m. EST on Thursday nights on Syfy, reportedly to accommodate “Smackdown,” which airs on the same channel.
While the rumors still had steam, it appeared that it had been all but confirmed. On Syfy’s website, beginning on Thursday, Oct. 2, “Smackdown” was advertised to air on Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. EST.
However, it now appears that “Smackdown” may not be moving after all. While Syfy’s schedule remains unchanged, a contradictory press release was issued. The press release did confirm that “Haven” would move to the aforementioned timeslot. However, beginning Sept. 11, Haven will be succeeded by “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena,” airing from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. EST.
F4WOnline picked up on the matter, backing up the press release. One of its sources within WWE confirmed that “Smackdown” would not be moving to Thursday nights for the fall, remaining on its normal time for Friday nights.
Editor’s Note
I really hope “Smackdown” makes the move to Thursday nights this year, but who knows what to believe at this point.
