On Thursday, April 23, WWE taped three editions of its developmental promotion “NXT.” One episode will air in late April, while the other two are slated to air in May. The episodes lead to NXT’s next live special in its “NXT Takeover” series. The event will air on the WWE Network on Wednesday, May 20, with much of the match card already set.
According to a report from PWInsider, during the tapings, WWE also took the time to negotiate a contract with one of wrestling’s top free agents. Former TNA star Samoa Joe was reportedly backstage for the April 23 “NXT” tapings, meeting with WWE COO Triple H. The two sides are said to have met to discuss Samoa Joe’s potential jump to WWE, whether it be in NXT or on the main roster.
The long-time TNA talent departed the company in February of 2015. Since then, there has been a plethora of reports and rumors regarding Samoa Joe taking his talents to WWE. In March, it was said that Joe, in all likelihood, would join WWE. Most recently, on April 22, it was reported that he is expected to begin working for WWE in June, whether it be in NXT or elsewhere.
Editor’s Note
It certainly seems like Joe will be WWE-bound at some point in the coming months.
