WWE aired its final edition of “Monday Night Raw” prior to the 2015 “Extreme Rules” pay-per-view on April 20. Within the show, WWE finished putting together the match card for its first pay-per-view event following WrestleMania 31.
The second match on the April 20 showing of “Monday Night Raw” saw The Lucha Dragons, Sin Cara and Kalisto, square off against Big E and Kofi Kingston of The New Day in tag team action. The bout was to determine the number one contenders to the WWE Tag Team Championship, currently held by Cesaro and Tyson Kidd. Thanks to interference from Xavier Woods, The New Day defeated The Lucha Dragons, and will head to “Extreme Rules” for a title match.
A recent report from F4WOnline has provided some backstage details on WWE’s decision for this match, as well as the future of the WWE tag team division as a whole. According to the website, WWE was originally planning on having Cesaro and Tyson Kidd defend their titles against The Lucha Dragons. However, the WWE Tag Team Champions were extremely over with the European crowds on WWE’s recent tour overseas, which may have very well changed its booking plans.
Conversely, the WWE Universe has not been on the side of the happy-go-lucky squad in The New Day. The way the trio won its match on “Monday Night Raw” may signify a future heel turn for the stable. At the very least, come “Extreme Rules,” Cesaro and Tyson Kidd will reportedly be working as babyfaces.
Editor’s Note
It would be nice to see Cesaro and Tyson Kidd work more as a babyface team. Above all, it’s essential for The New Day to be heel.
