Over the past couple of days, rumors ran rampant that Rey Mysterio would jump ship to the AAA lucha libre wrestling promotion. First, former WWE Spanish commentator Hugo Savinovich claimed that Mysterio will join AAA, upon working out contract issues with WWE. The following day, there were reports that Mysterio was invited to AAA’s TripleMania event, which falls on the same day as “SummerSlam.”
Despite the invitation and claims from Savinovich, Rey Mysterio will not be appearing for AAA, for the time being. F4WOnline has published an update on the situation, which states that Mysterio will not appear at the promotion’s TripleMania event. The obvious reason being that Mysterio is still contractually tied to WWE. Additionally, the report notes that WWE was never asked about Mysterio appearing, and even if the company was, it would not allow Mysterio to do so.
As mentioned, AAA’s TripleMania will take place the same night as WWE’s “SummerSlam.” Former WWE and World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio will be appearing for AAA that night. In a brief video announcement, Del Rio stated that he will be at TripleMania and that AAA is his new “home.” It will be Del Rio’s first appearance since being released by WWE on Thursday, Aug. 7.
Editor’s Note
Not too surprising, as there is no way Mysterio would attend while still under contract with WWE.
