Dean Ambrose and self-claimed “Face of WWE” Randy Orton squared off in singles matches on the July 4 edition of “Smackown” and the July 7 edition of “Monday Night Raw.” In both matches, “The Viper” Randy Orton would be the one standing tall.
On “Smackdown” Ambrose won via disqualification, after Seth Rollins delivered a vicious shot with his Money in the Bank briefcase to Ambrose’s injured shoulder. Despite winning the match, Ambrose would be on the receiving end of a “RKO” afterwards.
Ambrose’s attempt to exact revenge on “Monday Night Raw” did not go so well either. In an intense back-and-forth match, which went over 17 minutes, Randy Orton beat Ambrose cleanly with a “RKO.”
A recent report by F4WOnline has shed some light as to why Orton is besting Ambrose. It notes that WWE wants to keep Orton looking strong, as he begins clashing with Roman Reigns at pay-per-views. The two will be involved in the Fatal Four Way match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at “Battleground.” At the next pay-per-view, “SummerSlam,” the two are expected to go one-on-one.
With the two penciled in to scrap at “SummerSlam,” Reigns’ planned encounter with Triple H will likely occur at “Night of Champions.” With the event set to be booked as a WrestleMania due to the first batch of WWE Network subscriptions expiring beforehand, it’s no surprise to see WWE willing to push the match back.
Editor’s Note
WWE’s reasoning is completely understandable. Building Randy Orton up will be key, as he begins his feud with Roman Reigns. It’s okay to have Ambrose lose because he continues to look strong when foiling the plans of Seth Rollins week in and week out.
