As we previously reported, one of UFC’s biggest stars in Rashad Evans allegedly inquired about working for WWE. At the moment, Evans is rehabilitating from major knee surgery. Prior to sustaining the injury, he had considered stepping away from The Octagon.
However, it appears that Evans isn’t going anywhere. He talked to MMAMania.com about the rumors and dismissed them:
“If I ever did anything like that, it would be after I finished fighting, and I’m not gonna (sic) be done fighting for at least four year.”
“I had a million people asking me if I was retiring for wrestling, but honestly speaking, if I didn’t get seriously paid to do it I wouldn’t do it. I think it would be disrespectful to my legacy in the UFC if I didn’t do a deal that would make sense where I got paid! Besides, that s**t is harder on my body than fighting.”
If Evans is looking for a big payday from WWE, he is likely looking at the wrong company to do so. Besides WWE’s ongoing budget cuts, WWE is cautious in regards to using former MMA stars. In our previous report about Evans reaching out to WWE, we noted that Vince McMahon does not think they can handle the long schedule on the road. Additionally, the company does not like signing someone over 30, whose profession has seen his body get beat up. Evans will turn 35 later this year.
Editor’s Note
Evans’ comments about WWE being harder on his body than MMA is certainly interesting. It may even be true, which is kind of sad.
