At the time of this writing, WWE is currently taping the Sept. 26 edition of “Smackdown” from the Verizon Arena in Little Rock, Arkansas. Early on in the show, a battle royal occurred to determine a new number-one contender for Dolph Ziggler’s Intercontinental Championship.
Notable participants in the battle royal included: Bo Dallas, Zack Ryder, Cesaro, Damien Sandow, Jack Swagger, Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston, Big E, Heath Slater, Titus O’Neil, Justin Gabriel, Los Matadores, among others. In the end, Cesaro would win the battle royal, eliminating Kofi Kingston and Jack Swagger at the same time to win the bout. Dallas joined those three, as the last four competitors in the battle royal.
Surprisingly, Cesaro would waste no time in receiving his match. Later on during the show, Cesaro would unsuccessfully challenge Ziggler for the title. However, Cesaro had hold of the ropes upon getting rolled-up, meaning this feud will last.
Ziggler won the title from The Miz at “SummerSlam,” but would then drop it on the next pay-per-view, “Night of Champions.” However, the night after the pay-per-view, on the Sept. 22 edition of “Monday Night Raw,” Ziggler was able to reclaim his championship.
Editor’s Note
Again, this will be a tremendous match. However, the build will likely be small and meaningless, leading to Cesaro not getting elevated too much. Hopefully Ziggler’s momentum doesn’t falter either.
