In the quickest match of the night, Nikki Bella defeated then Divas Champion AJ Lee at “Survivor Series” on Nov. 23 to capture the Divas Championship for the second time in her career. Additionally, by becoming Divas Champion, it is the first time that a star of “Total Divas” has held the title since the show’s inception. In recent months, there were rumors that stars of the show were not allowed to win the title.
Following her title win, E! Online spoke with the new Divas Champion and “Total Divas” star about her title win. Right away, with the match ending in such quick fashion, Nikki was asked if there was any resentment from AJ Lee:
“We all are professionals here and AJ and I have been working with each other for a while. And when you start to work with certain girls, you get excited for them when they win. She and I wanted to have this long old match [at Survivor Series] and it’s still gonna be a lot of fun with her. I enjoy working with her in the ring and this just put another layer into our story. We’re gonna keep coming up with magic.”
Continuing, Nikki talked about the locker room’s reaction to her victory:
“I think everyone’s in shock. They were waiting outside when I came out and gave me hugs and kisses, and Nattie wrote me a nice, super long text. They’ve all been waiting for a change and they’ve seen how hard I’ve been working and I think they are very happy for me; they felt it was very deserving.”
Nikki even hit on the reactions of those closest to her, her twin sister Brie Bella and her boyfriend, John Cena:
“Brie was just beyond happy. And nothing was better than John opening up a big bottle of champagne and he gave me a big old kiss because he knows how Nikki Bella loves to celebrate.”
