On Tuesday, Oct. 7, WWE taped the Oct. 10 edition of “Smackdown” in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Wells Fargo Center. The episode served as a special 15th anniversary special for WWE’s second most-viewed program. Thanks to Arthur Shimko (@artshimko) for providing us with the spoilers.
Below are the spoilers to the special edition of “Smackdown,” airing Oct. 10:
The special showing of “Smackdown” began with Stephanie McMahon, who would quickly be cut off by Johnny Laurinaitis. The revolutionary man behind “People Power” attempted to impress Stephanie and build himself up, but he too would be interrupted by the returning Theodore “Teddy” Long. The former “Smackdown” General Manager and bitter rival of Laurinaitis would propose a 15-man tag team match for later in the night. A tag team match was made, pitting Team Johnny against Team Teddy one last time. The winning team would have its leader declared greatest General Manager in Smackdown history. One team will feature 7 WWE Superstars and El Torito, and the other will feature Mini Gator and 7 WWE Superstars.
Stephanie McMahon appeared again, announcing a MizTV “face-off” between John Cena and Dean Ambrose for later in the show. Then, Adam Rose appeared in order to tell Stephanie not to be a lemon. Rose would go on to wish “Smackdown” a happy birthday, before Stephanie shut down The Exotic Express, and booked Rose in a match against Kane.
1) Kane def. Adam Rose- Kane made quick work of Rose, picking up the victory with his chokeslam. The Exotic Express would enter the ring to tend to Rose after the match. However, Kane re-entered the ring, taking down Rose’s Rosebuds. Kane would then corner The Bunny, but it would escape.
2) AJ Lee def. Alicia Fox (w/ Paige-) In this non-title match, the Divas Champion got the win with her “Black Widow” submission move. As always, the AJ Lee appearance was met with “CM Punk chants.” After the match, Alicia Fox and Paige attacked AJ, but she was able to fight them off.
Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler vs. Rusev in a non-title match was announced for later in the night.
3) Seth Rollins (w/ Joey Mercury and Jamie Noble) def. Kofi Kingston- Kingston was alone, not joined by Big E or Xaiver Woods. Rollins was joined by the new “stooges,” who were on the lookout for Dean Ambrose. In a good back-and-forth match, Rollins would prevail in the end. Though, Kingston did get in some good offense.
Another vignette for Bray Wyatt releasing Luke Harper was shown.
4) Rusev (w/ Lana) def. Dolph Ziggler- Rusev controlled the opening parts of the match, as the crowd chanted “USA” at him and Lana. Despite Ziggler being able to battle back, Rusev picked up the win with “The Accolade.” Afterwards, Lana cut a promo on how Philadelphia was the birthplace of America, which is why the nation hasn’t succeeded. Rusev also got microphone time, stating that The Rock and Big Show will face consequences. Rusev then challenged Show to a match on next week’s “Monday Night Raw.”
Next was a backstage segment between Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, and The Rock. The Rock celebrated the birthday of “Smackdown,” and how it got its name. Him and Triple H also reminisced about their matches, and Rock stated his desire to work with “HHH” one last time. This appeared to be taped at “Monday Night Raw.”
5) Team Teddy (Sheamus, The Usos, Mark Henry, Jack Swagger, Los Matadores, and El Torito) def. Team Johnny (The Dusts, Cesaro, Heath Slater, Bo Dallas, Titus O’Neil, Damien Mizdow, and Mini Gator-) Booker T made an appearance to join Michael Cole and JBL on the commentary. In a “really fun” match that the crowd got invested in, Team Teddy would win, making him the “greatest Smackdown General Manager” ever. Booker T joined Team Teddy in the ring to celebrate.
Another Wyatt Family promo aired. This one had Erick Rowan featured with Bray Wyatt, instead of Luke Harper.
John Cena and Dean Ambrose entered for the “face-off” on MizTV to close “Smackdown.” Miz starts by revealing that their match at “Hell in a Cell” is a No Holds Barred Contract on a Pole match with the right to face Seth Rollins. Ambrose now began his piece by saying that he lets no one get away with crossing him. The man known as the “Lunatic Fringe” continued by stating that he takes no crap from anyone, and he won’t let Cena prevent him from getting to Rollins. Cena then began to cut his promo, pandering to the Philadelphia crowd. He talked about what it takes to make it in professional wrestling, taking jabs at The Miz along the way. Miz then tried to create tensions between the two, and kept getting angrier at them. Instead of creating tension, Ambrose and Cena, took down Miz. However, afterwards, Cena repaid the favor to Ambrose from Monday, taking him out to close the show.
