As soon as the Night of Champions pay-per-view started, WWE COO Triple H wasted no time in making a splash at the event. Seeing as it was Night of Champions and Curtis Axel did not have to defend his title, “The King of Kings” added an Intercontinental Title match to the match card.
The match, which would go on first, featured Axel defending his Intercontinental Championship against Kofi Kingston. Curtis Axel ended up successfully defending his Intercontinental Championship by defeating Kofi Kingston via pinfall.
