At the “Battleground” pay-per-view on Sunday, July 20, WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena will attempt to defend his title against Roman Reigns, Kane, and Randy Orton in a Fatal Four way match. All signs point to Cena prevailing at the event, leading to a feud with Brock Lesnar. WWE itself has already teased the match, and promotional video for the “SummerSlam” bout has leaked.
The build for the match may not be progressed much on the post-“Battleground” edition of “Monday Night Raw” on July 21 because Cena will not appear, unlike Lesnar. Cena has been pulled from advertisements for that broadcast of “Raw,” in addition to the Aug. 4 showing, according to advertisements on WWE.com. The July 21 showing of “Raw” will take place from the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Fla. On the other hand, the Aug. 4 broadcast takes place in Austin, Texas from the Frank Erwin Center.
The reason for Cena’s absences on those nights is due to his involvement in Judd Apatow’s upcoming “Trainwreck” film, which John Cena will star in. Cena is also slated to appear in an upcoming Tina Fey project, in which he will portray a villainous character.
Editor’s Note
It’s unfortunate that the presumed champion will be missing two showings of “Raw,” leading up to “SummerSlam.” However, with Cena’s absence next Monday, a Brock Lesnar appearance at “Battleground” is very possible.
