July will be a very telling month for the future relationship between CM Punk and WWE. Punk’s contract with the company is set to expire on July 17. While he hasn’t appeared on WWE programming since walking out on the company in late January, Vince McMahon could still renew Punk’s contract without the approval of the “Best in the World.” The Chairman reportedly did the same thing to Rey Mysterio.
Following AJ Lee’s return to “Monday Night Raw,” in addition to CM Punk being featured on WWE Network’s “WrestleMania Rewind,” there has been a lot of speculation that Punk’s return may be imminent. However, according to PWInsider, not much has changed between the two sides.
The website notes that word within WWE is that no plans are in place for Punk to return, as of July 8. Additionally, its sources from the company maintain that nothing has changed in regards to CM Punk’s WWE status.
Also, the website goes on to report that AJ Lee’s return to WWE has “no bearing at all” on the relationship between Punk and WWE. One source informed the website that he maintains his belief that WWE and CM Punk have had little to no conversation since his departure.
