With Brock Lesnar’s WWE contract presumably expiring at the end of March, there has been continuos buzz regarding “The Beast Incarnate” potentially returning to UFC. The rumors go back as far as December of 2013, returning to the scene in late 2014. Recently, they were fueled when Lesnar, a contracted talent of WWE, was featured in the “EA Sports UFC” video game.
While Dana White has adamantly denied being in talks with Brock Lesnar, a report from F4WOnline notes that there has been discussion within UFC about potential foes for Lesnar, should he return to the Octagon. One name that has come up as a possible opponent is Frank Mir. Mir, who will be 36 in May, has lost his last four fights in UFC. Most recently, at “UFC 169” on Feb. 1, 2014, Mir lost to Alistair Overeem by unanimous decision.
Mir and Lesnar have faced off twice, with each man holding a victory. In Brock Lesnar’s UFC debut, he lost to Mir at “UFC 81” on Feb. 2, 2008, just a minute and 30 seconds into the match. At “UFC 100” on July 11, 2009, Lesnar exacted revenge on Mir, becoming the UFC Heavyweight Champion with a TKO.
Editor’s Note
The story for Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir round three practically writes itself. If Lesnar does bolt to UFC, I could definitely see this be Brock’s return match.
