Early afternoon on Saturday, Sept. 20, WWE made a surprising injury announcement in regards to one of its most popular stars, Roman Reigns. According to a report on WWE.com, Reigns had to be rushed to a hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, the location of “Night of Champions.”
WWE reports that Reigns had to undergo emergency surgery for an “incarcerated hernia.” Reigns, of course, was in Nashville in order to promote “Night of Champions,” set to occur the day after the announcement, on Sunday, Sept. 21.
Following the operation on Saturday, WWE physician Dr. Chris Amann, in addition to the surgeon who operated on Reigns, will evaluate Reigns’ condition. Then and there, it will be determined how much recovery time Reigns will need.
In its first update, WWE.com has announced that Roman Reigns will no longer be able to compete at “Night of Champions.” It also advertised a live WWE Network update at 1 p.m. EST, but nothing has been shown, for now.
Reigns was slated to face Seth Rollins at “Night of Champions,” following his clean victory of Rollins on “Monday Night Raw” during the Sept. 15 showing.
WWE.com will continue to update Reigns’ condition when more information becomes available.
Editor’s Note
Wow. Assuming this is not storyline, this is a huge blow to Reigns and WWE. He’ll likely miss “Night of Champions,” and may be out for the next pay-per-view, “Hell in a Cell.”
