In 2011, Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan c0-founded Resistance Pro, an independent wrestling promotion based out of Lockport, Illinois. Corgan co-founded the organization alongside two brothers, Jacques and Gabe Baron. Since its inception, the promotion has been holding monthly events around the Chicago area.

In March of 2014, Resistance Pro made headlines because of its rumored partnership with AMC, in order to produce a reality series based on the wrestling promotion. About two months later, in May, it was announced that AMC would officially pick up the reality series, dubbing it “Untitled Billy Corgan Wrestling Project.” However, plans would end up falling through, when AMC made the decision to kill all of its planned new reality series for the fall.

During the morning of Saturday, Nov. 15, Corgan took to his Twitter account to announce his departure from Resistance Pro:

Additionally, Corgan made headlines back in November of 2013, when he had once been rumored to have interest in purchasing TNA. However, Corgan would end up refuting the rumors, and the Carter family went on to not sell the company.

Editor’s Note

I’m a bit curious as to why Corgan made the departure, which will probably be come out in the coming weeks, as Corgan noted. I also wonder if Corgan will now look to be involved in other wrestling promotions, or just stay away from the industry.
