Former WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio, now known as Alberto El Patron in AAA and the independent circuit, is one of wrestling’s most sought-after talents. Del Rio has reportedly garnered a lot of interest from TNA, but the two sides have not been able to strike a deal because TNA wants Del Rio to itself, despite Del Rio’s agreements with AAA and ROH.
Del Rio is also highly sought-after in the mixed martial arts circuit, as previously noted. In fact, it has recently been revealed that Del Rio is in discussion with Bellator MMA. Its president, Scott Coker, confirmed in an interview with MMAFighting.com that Del Rio has been in talks with the company:
“I think that we did reach out. I’m not sure where that is and by no means is it in the 11th hour, but I know there’s some dialogue going on.”
“He’s had a lot of great MMA fights and I just think that would be a fun time to see him fight some of the guys we have on our roster.”
Current TNA star Bobby Lashley currently pulls double duty by wrestling for Bellator. Del Rio, who has a MMA record of 9-5, could join Lashley as both a wrestler and mixed martial artist.
Editor’s Note
Del Rio is a prime example of being able to do yourself better without WWE. He is with ROH, AAA, potentially TNA, and now possibly Bellator, while still being able to work the independent circuit.
