For the first week of September, WWE’s Smackdown tapings took place from Minneapolis, Minnesota on Tuesday, September 3. The episode will air on Friday, September 6 on Syfy.
Here are the spoilers:
The show begins with WWE COO Triple H, as he is holding a town hall meeting for anyone to air their grievances. The entire locker room is out on stage taking in this meeting. Joining Triple H in the ring are Raw and Smackdown General Managers Brad Maddox and Vickie Guerrero respectively. Triple H begins to talk about how he had fired Cody Rhodes on Monday Night Raw, and how that move was best for business. As usual, The Shield are standing guard at ringside.
“The King of Kings” wants nobody to be afraid of suffering the same fate of Cody Rhodes, and insists that someone step up and ask a question. However, no one steps up to ask a question. Triple H then states that there should be no butt kissing. Damien Sandow then chimes in and says that he is in support of Triple H firing Cody Rhodes. Triple H then states that, “Cody fired Cody.”
After Sandow, Kofi Kingston speaks up, saying that the entire WWE locker room is afraid and that is not best for business. Triple H responds by saying that wrestlers’ egos are out of control nowadays, and that is why Daniel Bryan is not out on stage. Heath Slater then tries to speak up, but Triple H cracks jokes at him instead. Rob Van Dam is the next superstar to speak up, and he feels that the WWE COO’s firing of Rhodes was not cool. During this, Van Dam refers to Triple H as “dude.” Ryback is the last superstar to speak up, and states that he is not liking that he is being referred to as a bully.
Three matches are then announced for the night. These matches are Ryback vs. Dolph Ziggler, Kofi Kingston vs. Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel, and Rob Van Dam vs. WWE Champion Randy Orton. It is also revealed that Daniel Bryan will get to choose a member of The Shield to face later on. Triple H then gives Randy Orton a grand introduction.
1) WWE Champion Randy Orton def. Rob Van Dam– Alberto Del Rio was on commentary for this match. It was a quality, lengthy match, where Van Dam missed his patented Five Star Frogsplash. The WWE Champion eventually got the win via a RKO. World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio interfered during the match, and there was speculation that he may have injured his arm. After Van Dam lost, Del Rio attacked the #1 contender to the World Heavyweight Championship and left him to lay in the middle of the ring.
Daniel Bryan is interviewed by Renee Young. Bryan states that WWE officials advised him not to go to Triple H’s town hall meeting. He then leaves it up to The Shield to choose which member of their team will face him.
Then, a new promo for Los Matadores airs.
AJ Lee then talks with Alicia Fox and Aksana backstage about Total Divas. AJ says she would rather put her title up against one of them two instead of any of the divas from the show.
2) Ryback def. Dolph Ziggler- Dean Ambrose is out on commentary, and attacks Ziggler in order to give Ryback the victory.
3) Kofi Kingston def. WWE Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel– It was a non-title match. Axel was said to have received a huge pop from his hometown crowd. Even though Paul Heyman is with him at ringside, Kofi Kingston hit his SOS to obtain a victory.
4) Naomi vs. Brie Bella is fought to a no contest– The match ends in a no contest as WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee brings out the other divas from the locker room in order to face off against the cast of Total Divas. Cameron, Eva Marie, and Nikki Bell were at ringside, who also got involved in the scrap.
5) The Real Americans (Jack Swagger and Antonio Cesaro) def. The Usos- Along with Zeb Colter, Swagger and Cesaro come out as another Los Matadores vignette airs. Swagger and Cesaro are able to get the victory.
Triple H then forces Big Show to face 3MB in a handicap match.
6) Big Show def. 3MB- The match is a handicap match, but Show is still able to obtain a victory rather quickly. He hit the KO punch on Heath Slater for the win. This led to Slater being helped to the back by referees.
7) Daniel Bryan def. Seth Rollins- The Shield comes out to a relatively big pop, and announced that Seth Rollins will face Daniel Bryan in the main event. Bryan ends up with the victory after he hit Rollins with a knee to the face. However, after the match, Randy Orton interrupts and attacks the #1 contender for the WWE Championship. The show ends with Orton standing over Bryan with the WWE Championship in hand.
