The 2014 edition of “SummerSlam” will be the last one held in Los Angeles, at the Staples Center, for the time being. As seen during the event, WWE announced that in 2015, “SummerSlam” will be held in the New York and New Jersey Area. In terms of what venue will host the event, WWE has not made anything official.
Though, the most recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has picked up on exactly where “SummerSlam” could be held in 2015. One of the venues that will likely not host “SummerSlam” is Madison Square Garden. According to the newsletter, the costs to run a major event there are likely too high nowadays. Other venues would be able to be had at a cheaper price.
One venue that may be in play is MetLife Stadium, which hosted WrestleMania 29. Despite it being one of WWE’s summer events, WWE has reportedly discussed holding the event at the home of the New York Jets and New York Giants of the National Football League.
Two of the safer bets to host “SummerSlam” are the Barclays Center and the Izod Center. The venues are located in Brooklyn, N.Y. and East Rutherford, N.J. respectively. According to the newsletter, these two venues have been discussed to hold “SummerSlam.” These are the more traditional indoor venues that can both seat at least 15,000 people.
Editor’s Note
I’m not sure WWE could fill MetLife Stadium for a “SummerSlam.” Madison Square Garden was probably out of the equation anyway, if the New Jersey area is being promoted. The Izod Center, or any other big indoor New Jersey venue, is probably the logical choice.
