New reports from David Shoemaker, @AKATheMaskedMan, claim that Daniel Bryan will require “Tommy John” surgery. Bryan has been on-the-shelf since May with a debilitating injury that has already required one surgery. Shoemaker claims that Bryan could be out-of-action for another additional three months if he does undergo “Tommy John.”

Shoemaker, author of “The Squared Circle: Life, Death, and Professional Wrestling” and well-known journalist (penning articles for Grantland.com and Deadspin.com), made the report through his Twitter account on Aug. 20, saying,

WWE had hoped Bryan would be able to return to action around the 2015 “Royal Rumble” PPV, though he may not be able to compete until closer to WrestleMania or after if he undergoes this surgery. “Tommy John” surgery, known in medical practice as ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) reconstruction, is a surgical graft procedure in which the ulnar collateral ligament in the medial elbow is replaced with a tendon from elsewhere in the body. The procedure is common among collegiate and professional athletes in several sports, most notably baseball.

Bryan was last in the ring with Kane at WWE “Extreme Rules,” where he successfully defended the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. He was then stripped of the title due to the amount of time he would be away while rehabbing his injuries, and has made sporadic appearances for the company since.

Editor’s Note:
We at WrestlingRumors.net continue to wish Bryan a speedy and full recovery.
