When WWE began their women’s revolution, it was built around four female superstars: Charlotte Flair, Bayley, Becky Lynch, and Sasha Banks. But, in recent months, we’ve seen several new female superstars burst onto the scene, like new SmackDown Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss.
At 5’1″, Alexa doesn’t exactly fit the mold of a typical WWE superstar, but that hasn’t prevented her from shooting straight to the top of the women’s division just a couple of months after she was called up from WWE’s developmental territory, NXT.
In a recent interview with the Oakland Press, Alexa discussed what it was like to win the Women’s Championship for the first time, and the role of of the female superstars in today’s WWE.
On winning the Women’s Championship: “It was amazing! My parents were there. It was their first WWE event, so that was so cool to be able to have the opportunity to win a title with my family there. It was such an amazing moment, especially in this whole era of women empowering and making history.”
On the women’s revolution in WWE: “I remember even when I started with WWE, it was a different ball game. There were all these restrictions and things we couldn’t do, and now, it’s really empowering to know we can do anything that we want and what the guys can do. It gives women the opportunity to show why we’re more than divas and why we’re WWE superstars.”

When Alexa was first called up to the main roster during the brand extension draft this past July, many questioned if she was ready to be on the big stage. But, in her short time on the main roster, she’s proven to be one of the best heels that the company has, and at the age of 25, she hasn’t even reached her prime yet.
