WWE is apparently in cost-cutting mode, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, which is why so many WWE Network shows have been cancelled as of late.
On Monday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about why WWE is cutting costs.
“So there’s major cutbacks going on all over WWE because, the gist of what happened is they promised everyone that they were gonna have bigger profits this year. So last year’s profits were about $30 million, and this year we’re halfway through, and it’s about, and I don’t have the exact numbers in front of me, but it’s $5 or $6 million, so they’ve got some catching up to do, and to do so they’ve got to spend less. That’s why there’s no pyro, that’s why a lot of the shows on the [WWE] Network are being cancelled, because they’re trying to lower production costs, because the Network is not growing at the rate that they expected it to.”
Meltzer also noted that WWE isn’t in any financial trouble, but they are genuinely disappointed in the WWE Network’s current number, and its growth, or lack thereof.
