The original main event for this month’s Payback show was Braun Strowman vs. Roman Reigns, but now that the show will have the WWE Championship match between Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt, they might actually hold Reigns vs. Strowman off until their June pay-per-view.
Brock Lesnar is the current WWE Universal Champion, and he probably won’t return to defend his title until this summer. So, WWE may need a main event for their June show, since Lesnar probably won’t be a part of it, and that main event might end up being Reigns vs. Strowman.
On Saturday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed the possibility of WWE waiting until June to do Reigns vs. Strowman.
Alvarez: “It’ll be two months, right? Because the next Raw exclusive show won’t be until June. So it almost seems like they have to do it [this month].”
Meltzer: “They could hold it off until June. And I don’t know if it’s been decided because Lesnar doesn’t have a date yet. So if Lesnar had a date and it was June, then you would know that they couldn’t hold it off. But if Lesnar doesn’t have a date, and Lesnar might be back in July, they could do Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman in June, and then come back in July with Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar, and then I don’t know what they’re doing for SummerSlam.”
